Out of reach
So many years have passed since that day, it somehow deemed like a distant memory, from a time long past, but he remembered it as though it were yesterday. The day she suddenly graduated and somehow went so high, far and out of his reach.
A lot has happened since then. He graduated, joined the famed ‘Kuchiki’ division. Became its vice captain. He was close, but still not close enough. He had grown stronger, but still no where near as strong as he was. That man, the man who pulled her out of his world, out of his reach.
There was no denying it, he had come a long, made something of himself, was respected and revered by so many. Looked up to, valued. Yes; he had come a long way, but somehow it still didn’t seem like it was enough. Deep within the dark recesses of his heart, he knew, there was still a long way to go. Not even the slightest glimmer of pride could change that cold hard truth. He still wasn’t strong enough, still hadn’t fullfilled that old promise, still hadn’t beaten him and she was still so very much, out of his reach.
He had grown up, learned a lot of things, changed some, been to new and interesting places that he couldn’t even dream of when he was that dirty mutt back in Inuzuri. So much had changed, all those decades past. However, no matter how polished his surroundings may have made him, deep down, he was still the stray dog from Rukongai.
A dog howling wildly at the lone; white moon, that was out of his reach.
