They had their working relationship - which was formal and curtious. Then they had thier comradery out on the field where they had to trust each other implicitly and work as a team. In battle, Renji had thus far not let him down since their unspoken understanding that one day Renji would attempt to defeat him. Right now he just wanted some tea while it was quiet and things were under control and there was nothing at the moment that demanded his attention.

“I will have tea, I was suggesting you could choose whatever you prefer.”

Theirs was a strange sort of a relationship. On the outside and to most people it seemed much too formal. But there more to it than meets the eye. Renji admired his captain and had even went as far as learning calligraphy, flower arrangement – ikebana and all the other things the captains and noble people do in their past time because Kuchiki taichou encouraged him to. It wasn’t like the man forced it upon him, he really did want to try those things if out of curiosity. So when they were suggested by his captain, Renji had accepted and he had been practising his calligraphy ever since. Even if its no where as good as his captains, he still tries his best. Like with most of the things he does.

“Tea for me too then.” Pauses, then clears his throat and asks. “Do you ever drink, taichou?"

"Ukitake-taichou wanted me to give this you.” The Shinigami chuckled aloud. “I’m not sure why exactly, though. Then again, you know how he is.” A soft sigh escaped her lips as she gently took a seat on the ground, gazing skyward. It was honestly nice to converse with her friend like this, even if they had their scuffles here and there.}

_{He didn’t know what to expect when she said Ukitake had given her something for him, but then when she extracted whatever it was from the pocket of her sleeve Renji could only stare incredulously at it. A cherry red wrapped lollipop was placed on his hand and her chuckle didn’t make his dumbfounded expression any less comical. A lollipop? Seriously? But this was Ukitake and they all knew how he was with candy. “Thanks I guess.” Folding his hand around it, he turned to her with a raised brow. “But seriously, does he like give you candy like this all the time? Ukitake taichou really needs to have some children. Because giving candy to us is just… weird."}
